A new study in the journalJAMA Network Openon the effect of Nexium on the risk of heart attack was published today in the journalJAMA Net Med.The study, which was presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology, found that the drug was protective against heart attacks, even when it was taken in combination with other drugs, such as aspirin. Researchers said that the drug is an option for some people with heart disease who have a reduced heart rate.

“This finding is good news for people at risk for heart attack,” said study leader Dr. Steven Nissen, of the University of Michigan. “It suggests that it may be possible to reduce the risk of heart attack by reducing the risk of heart attack, even when other drugs have the potential to reduce heart disease risk.”

The researchers also found that taking a similar drug as Nexium was not associated with a lower risk of heart attack, compared with taking the brand-name drug for heartburn.
“This is the first study to show that a similar drug may protect against heart attack,” said Davis. “The results show that there was a significant reduction in heart attack risk among people taking a similar drug.”
In a study published in the journal, researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center compared heart disease risk between those who took the brand-name drug for heartburn and those who took a similar drug.

The researchers also found that people taking the brand-name drug for heartburn who took the drug Nexium had a lower risk of developing heart attacks. They also showed that taking a similar drug as Nexium was not associated with a lower risk of heart attack.
“Our findings suggest that the use of a similar drug is safe and effective in people with heart disease who have a reduced heart rate,” Davis said.
